Content (as in the sensation of contentment, not as in this post) because it’s over and it went well. Grateful to work with someone as thoughtful and supportive as Morgan O’Brien and grateful for the team of people who support us. Our advisors who travelled to work with us last weekend, and our families and friends who were out at our event.

In moving so far so fast there isn’t time to think. The destination is clear and focus must be sustained. We pass the time, but we do not settle. We do not let the floaties in our brains come to rest. Much gets suspended. Tasks and conversations put on hold until later. Everything a blur of brown and grey and green and perpetual motion.

Coming up for air. Or coming down, and coming home. Thinking about all those stretches of highway and all those hours stretched out. Thinking about sharing all of that time with somebody and how it shapes you. Thinking about gratitude.

From Nigeria to the Mississippi, Snow Crabs to farmed Salmon, from Ukraine to Taiwan and Iran to Palestine, from Refinery Row in Edmonton to the protected wilderness within a hundred kilometres of it, and from my house to a stranger’s in the same city, I can’t help but worry about our futures at this time.

It seems the more I age the more I recognize finitude in all things: we have a finite time we’ll be alive. There are a finite number of hours in the day. And there is a finite capacity for developing and maintaining meaningful relationships.

It’s been a long ride to get here, this stretch from Sault Ste Marie to Canmore, from the Shield to the Rockies with the full width of the Prairies in between.

From Bracebridge to Winnipeg, oh how the road winds and the land changes. Oh the bodies of water and the trees mid-change! Oh oh oh, I’m so full when I’m doing my favourite things, when I’m on the move and connecting with the earth!
